There are times when a thorough clinical examination requires us to take an x-ray to rule out any other health defects that could affect our treatment or diagnosis. These images allow us to get a better understanding of your bone anatomy, as well as soft tissue interactions, and to see if there has been significant wear in certain areas, or if there is an anomaly or curvature in your spine.
Instead of traditional film, digital xrays enhance the overall quality of the image while offering a number of immediate benefits to both doctors of chiropractic and their patients. At Quantum Care, we employ digital X-ray techniques that limit the amount of radiation required in traditional x-rays, and so that we can immediately preview the image to get an idea of your bone structure.
WHY ARE X-RAYS NECESSARY IN CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENT?
Digital X rays would be part of the diagnosis stage, but in cases of extensive spine curvature, may also be used after significant progress has been made.
Proper spinal and joint adjustments can be made when your doctor of chiropractic takes advantage of a digital X ray since they can then place pressure on the exact location that needs adjustment, using either hands-on spinal manipulation or the graston technique.
During the diagnosis process, there may be symptoms that could be the result of a number of causes that could interfere with your treatment, or require other methods of medical intervention. These include:
- Curvature of the spine
- Scoliosis
- Tumor
- Fracture
- Degenerative change
- Infections
The benefits of a safer, digital X-ray system include minimal exposure due to high frequency equipment, shielding and filtration that blocks the beam from affecting sensitive tissue, and narrowed beam to areas of interest only.
While digital X-rays have been found to have less harmful exposure rates than traditional machines, they are never performed on pregnant women, and limited in their use on children.
